As AMION turns 25, we look back on some of the key moments over the last quarter of a century

AMION is born!

In April 2000, AMION Consulting is founded in a small Liverpool office by two former KPMG consultants and friends; accountant Tim Johnson and economist Graham Russell. Tony Blair is PM of a New Labour government, and all sectoral talk is around Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), devolution and an urban renaissance.

Launched our first logo

AMION launched its first company logo, featuring a distinctive transposed 'A' motif. While design tastes have evolved since then, this logo represented the company's early ambition and identity as it established itself in the consultancy sector.

Silkhouse Court
AMION's first home

AMION moves into its very first office at Silkhouse Court in Liverpool back in 2000 - a big step for the team and the start of exciting things to come!

First Project: AMEC - Waterloo Link Tunnel

AMION secured its first major project, working with AMEC on the Waterloo Link Tunnel. This project marked the beginning of AMION’s track record in delivering complex consultancy assignments for major infrastructure developments.

Key Panel Appointment

October 2000 sees AMION appointed to the prestigious English Partnerships’ Economic Panel.  We’re proud to say that this relationship continues to the current day – with predecessor Homes England   (the only firm to be on panel since its inception).

Additionality Guide 1st Edition

AMION helps author the first edition of the groundbreaking Additionality Guide from the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minster.  This guide and the whole additionality concept is transformative and is soon used across the economic development sector.

AMION undertakes its first 'all-nighter' during our completion of the English Partnerships Economic Appraisal of the OMEGA development

Additionality Guide 2nd Edition

Following the success of the inaugural guide, AMION authors the 2nd Additionality Guide from DCLG.  The use of the guide is widespread and increasingly other government departments outside economic development.  It’s also referenced in HMT’s Green Book.

Bigger Office Move

As AMION’s client base and team expanded, the company relocated to a larger office in Liverpool, reflecting its growth and increasing presence in the consultancy market.

Recognising AMION's place as a key Additionality Guide contributor, a 3rd revision of the Guide is published.  The guide now has international recognition, and regular enquires are made by bodies outside the UK, including the World Bank.
