Work to start on Greengate public realm

Work is due to begin this month on public realm improvements in the Greengate area of Salford which are expected to be completed in April 2012, although the associated commercial development remains some way off. The 13ha site near Manchester Cathedral is designed to accommodate a £450m mixed-use development with the public realm forming a major contribution to the urban design, including a new footbridge linking Manchester and Salford, three architectural sculptures, 36 coloured water fountains and an open green space. AMION assisted the project by undertaking a Green Book economic appraisal which was instrumental in the justification of additional public sector financial support from the Northwest Regional Development Agency towards the project.
